Equanimity: Freedom Beyond Identity and Preference
A daylong meditation retreat
with Carla Brennan and Lisa Dale Miller
“The entire world is disturbed with insanity, due to the exertions of those who are confused about themselves.” – Shantideva
“The Great Way is not difficult for those with no preferences.” – Hsin Hsin Ming
Equanimity (upekkhā)—a stance of neutrality toward all internal and external phenomena—is fundamental to genuine wisdom and well-being. Yet of all the Brahmavihāras (lovingkindness, compassion, joy and equanimity), it can be the most difficult to comprehend and practice. The view of equality requires a foundational grasp of the empty nature of all phenomena and direct experience of non-self. This day of teachings offers a unique opportunity to dive deeply into the clear, still, unimpeded ocean of equality and identitylessness through a variety of equanimity practices designed to cut through deluded grasping at preference, separateness and self.
Participants must attend the entire day.
