And this is how American women leaders show up with power and truth a nation run by corrupt male leaders. Thank you Florida Representative Stephanie Murphy, ex-Department of Defense employee and current member of the House Armed Services Committee. So proud!
In my view, the insistence on wearing a pink hat with cat ears (a silly, diminutive girl-like image) and making it the symbol of this march was deeply problematic, yet expected. Women seem to have to make standing up and speaking out “safe”. I believe this need arises from a strong unconscious, acculturated habit of diminishment that women engage in when they seek power in a male-dominated society that objectifies women and their contributions. I knew the pink hat would be used by the media as a symbol of the march instead of the actual photos of millions of marchers. We give them the ammo they need to diminish us.
