On this day, September 11, when many of us remember the traumatic events in NYC, Washington DC and Pennsylvania, I am pleased to share an interview I did for the Present Moment Podcast. Our discussion revolved mainly around the use of Integrative Psychotherapy and Somatic Experiencing Therapy for trauma healing highlighting where mindfulness interventions and somatic interventions align and depart; particularly when it comes to resolving physiological and psychological trauma responses. The Present Moment Podcast is produced by Ted Meissner, Online and Community Development Manager for the Center for Mindfulness at UMASS Medical School.

M. David Green, creator of Hack the Process Podcast, invited me to join him for a rich conversation that was as much fun, as it was informative for us both. Listen to it at the link below.
Psychologist Guy Macpherson interviewed me for the Trauma Therapist Project Podcast. We had a very rich conversation during which I shared experiences from my time in Kosovo shortly after the war ended in 2000 working with traumatized Albanian Kosovar children, and also the clinical integration of Buddhist psychology and and Somatic Experiencing Therapy that I currently offer patients. Enjoy!
Watch Dr. Peter Levine work with a US military veteran to help him resolve PTSD and physical combat trauma.
This video tells the compassionate story of the healing process of Ray, a marine who had been injured by two explosive devices (IEDs) and diagnosed with both severe PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He was brought to see Peter A. Levine, the creator of Somatic Experiencing Therapy (SE™) after developing chronic pain, Tourette-like convulsions, cognitive problems and insomnia due to night terrors. In a series of documented Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) sessions, including Ray’s family, Peter demonstrates the power of SE as a tool to heal the wounds of war.
Peter A. Levine, PhD, Founder & Developer of Somatic Experiencing holds doctorates in both medical biophysics and psychology. He is the author of six books on the subjects of trauma and PTSD, including the bestseller, Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, which has been published in twenty-four languages. Dr. Levine has been a member of World Psychologists for Social Responsibility, responding to large-scale disasters and ethno-political warfare, and served as a stress consultant for NASA in developing the astronaut training program.
Peter Levine, psychologist and originator of Somatic Experiencing Therapy, talks about how he created SE years before the diagnosis of PTSD was recognized. Peter beautifully elucidates the truth of the body’s capacity to heal itself and how SE facilitates that process. I owe so much to Peter and SE in the way I work with patients every day.
